Christian Malcolm: It's all about trying to get a bit of speed in the legs. I'll run a few more two hundreds just to get a bit more rhythm. Last year I didn't get to run as many two hundreds as I needed, so I need to get my rhythm back.

RYG: How hard do you have to train?

CM: I train much harder than I used to. I've got no choice really. The coach doesn't let me get away with anything (laughs). My discipline's a lot better.

RYG: What advice would you give to young people wanting to follow in your footsteps?

CM: You've got to do what you've got to do. If you're taking part in athletics or any sport, and you have a gift, you have to believe in yourself and you have to get out there.

First and foremost you have to enjoy it. Don't put pressure on yourself. At the end of the day you don't want to look back at the race and think to yourself 'Why did I get nervous?' Enjoy it, embrace it. This is your stage, this is your moment, so go out there and enjoy it.
