Cardiff's folk rock multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter is a name to drop on the indie and alt-folk scenes, and she already has friends in high places.
Cate talks of early childhood experiences as explanations for her lyrical content: "Early experiences with a string of pet deaths had a profound lasting effect on me. I have an abnormal fixation with death."
Her debut album - entitled Pet Deaths, surprisingly - was released in 2007, with lead single No One Can Drag Me Down/Disappear a collaboration with Gorky's Zygotic Mynci Megan Childs.
She has forged a fertile working relationship with Super Furry Animals' frontman Gruff Rhys. He said of her, "Bobbie Gentry and Nico fight over a Casio keyboard; melody wins!"
She has worked with him on his Neon Neon side-project with Boom Bip, providing vocals on the I Lust U single, and supported both him and the Furries on tour.
Aside from working with high-profile Welsh psych-rock bands, she has played Glastonbury, Latitude and the Green Man Festival.
