Bullet For My Valentine interview (2008) - part two

Bullet For My Valentine

Part two of our interview with singer Matt Tuck and drummer Moose

Last updated: 26 November 2008

Matt, your voice caused a lot of trouble last year didn't it?

Matt: Yeah, it got serious. It got as far as surgery to have my tonsils out. It's what rock and roll does to you sometimes! But it's made me stronger and made me more aware; it's made me a better singer and made the band stronger too.

What seemed like the worst time ever has turned for the better really. I can't really get ill anymore because the problem was my tonsils and they're in the bin!

Since then I've been trying to become a better singer and I have. I've been taking vocal coaching from the best in the business. It's all good. I'm sounding better than I really have and I'm not exaggerating.

Moose: I was talking to our manager the other day and he asked what Matt's voice was like. I said he's better than I've ever heard him singing.

Matt: It's never been as good in my life! Especially considering what I was like last year.

Moose: It's weird how we got through last year, thinking about it now.

Matt: It was skin of our teeth really wasn't it? It was bad, but it's a learning experience and it'll never happen again.

So now that the voice is sorted and the album's coming out, what are your aims?

Matt: it'd be nice to have a number one world-wide! That's an aim, but just to have the longevity that The Poison has would be an amazing achievement on this album. That's been going two and a half years and it's still selling. Our fanbase is still growing and that album still hasn't left the chart in America.
