Conductor

Jac van Steen has been Principal Guest Conductor of the 91Èȱ¬ National Orchestra of Wales since 2005. He was born in Eindhoven, The Netherlands and studied conducting at the Brabants Conservatory of Music.

He has held numerous conducting posts throughout Europe, including the Bach Choir in Nijmegen; Het Nationale Ballet, Amsterdam; the Bochumer Symfoniker; the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra; the New Berlin Chamber Orchestra; the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar and Staatskapelle Weimar; Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur; the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera Theatre Dortmund.

He has guest conducted throughout Europe, including Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jac van Steen has worked with UK ensembles including the London Sinfonietta; 91Èȱ¬ Symphony Orchestra; 91Èȱ¬ Philharmonic; Royal Scottish National Orchestra; Hallé Orchestra; City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Opera North as well as his relationship with the 91Èȱ¬ National Orchestra of Wales.

Collaborating with young musicians and students are of great importance to Jac van Steen and he works with the Bundes Jugend Orchestra Berlin, Chetham's School of Music, the Young Artists' Festival Bayreuth and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He also teaches conducting at the Royal Conservatory of Music and Dance in The Hague.
