Pen Pych School in the Rhondda has set up a special after-school group so that fathers can spend more time with their children.

Dads and the new family

Head teacher, Gareth Todd Jones, believes that father-involvement is an important factor in children's development. "Society has changed and women have changed. This has played a great part in the idea of what a man's role really is in the family and in the community. Children benefit from having two parents involved in their care - it has a huge effect on the way they will develop, on their mental health and their self-esteem."

A film about the historical context of fatherhood in the Valleys which explores the way fathers used to be and the social and cultural trends which have affected a huge change in attitudes and behaviours by present day fathers.
