Eve Myles is one of Wales' most successful screen actors, best known for her portrayal of Ceri in hit series Belonging and in Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood.
Born in Ystradgynlais, Powys in 1978, Myles completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at Cardiff's Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2000 before moving to London.
It was in this year that Myles began working on 91Èȱ¬ Wales series Belonging, playing Ceri Owen (nee Lewis). In 2002 and 2003 she was nominated for Best Actress in the BAFTA Cymru Awards for her role in the drama. The ninth and final series of Belonging was screened in 2008, with a one-off special planned for 2009.
In 2001 Myles starred in Tales from Pleasure Beach, which was filmed at Porthcawl's Coney Beach Amusement Park and in Aberavon. She also appeared in television film Score.
Two years later Myles took on the challenging role of Lavinia in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Titus Andronicus. 2003 also saw her appear as young Gwen in EastEnders spin-off Dot's Story.
In 2005 she appeared in ITV production Colditz and starred alongside Sir Michael Gambon in Henry IV, Part I and II at the National Theatre. This year also spurned an appearance in an episode of Doctor Who, The Unquiet Dead.
Her appearance in this part impressed director Russell T Davies, so much so that he wrote the part of Gwen Cooper in Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood especially for her. She has starred in the series from its inception in 2006, and in 2007 won the Bafta Cymru for Best Actress for her role as Gwen in series one.
2006 saw Myles star in 91Èȱ¬ drama Soundproof and also in feature film These Foolish Things.
In June 2008 she starred in the Series Four finale of Doctor Who, alongside Torchwood co-stars John Barrowman and Freema Agyeman. In the autumn of 2008 Myles appeared in the initial episode of 91Èȱ¬ hit fantasy drama series Merlin, playing the roles of Lady Helen and witch Mary Collins.
In 2009 she appeared in the successful 91Èȱ¬ One adaptation of Charles Dickens' Little Dorrit playing the part of Maggy, and starred in 91Èȱ¬ drama Framed - set mostly in Wales - with Trevor Eve.
