The chance to save money on my petrol bill was one I couldn't refuse so I went for an eco driving lesson with Joe Kendall.

I thought I was fairly economical with my driving and was surprised when Joe told me he could save me up to 15% on fuel.

We went for a half hour drive, with Joe watching my every move and afterwards he told me how I'd done....

Joe's main advice was about how I used my gears, he told me to use the brakes to slow the car and then change gear when ready to go again, as opposed to using every gear and engine braking.

To explain more clearly, Joe got in the driving seat and demonstrated what he meant....

A week after my lesson I've already noticed a difference in my fuel consumption. I'm also more aware of how I'm driving and despite sometimes falling back into my old routine of engine braking most of the time I'm doing just what Joe told me.

For a few hours of my time I think the eco driving lesson was a very valuable exercise, not only from a money saving point of view, but also from an environmental and a safety one.
