Alastair Brownlee's a proper Boro fan. Not just because he makes a living out of talking about them, but because Middlesbrough football club is in his blood.

The love affair goes back to 1967 when he was taken to Ayresome Park to watch a game. It was a good time for the club. They were rising up the ranks and in Alastair's first season as a fan they were promoted from the third division.

Father, son and eight year old grandson used to stand in the Holgate end with the noisy Ayresome Angels. He remember's sitting on the crash barrier with a red and white rattle, whooping and clacking away, no doubt to the annoyance of some of the older fans!

He's always been grateful, not just that he got the opportunity to go, but that he got to go for free.听 "I used to squeeze through the turnstiles, or the man would say to my dad to lift me over - you couldn't do that now"

"You never forget your first sight of football pitch..and it's so great what MFC are doing now, allowing youngsters in for 拢95 for the season. The sounds of all those kids yelling the team on is terrific".

Are you a curry or a chinese man?

I'm not a curry or a chinese man because I have a nut allergy. I ate a massive slice of chocolate cake once and it had ground almonds in it. It was straight to A and E with my dad carrying the offending chocolate cake behind me.

Are you an only child?

No I've got one sister Jennifer - she's the Dracula of the family as she collects blood. I've got a wife Wendy and two daughters. I was born a good stones throw from Ayresome Park and moved to Acklam and then to Linthorpe.

What is it about Middlesbrough you love so much - it's had a bit of a kicking by some people?

I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I love the history of the town. When you come back into Middlesbrough when you've been on holidays or something it's great.

It was dreadful some of the kicking's Middlesbrough got and it's not fair. We've got a redesigned town, we've got MIMA, we're a few minutes from some of the most beautiful country side around.

These people, often the press have things to say about Middlesbrough. The reality is yes we have a few problems, what town doesn't, but we are fighting back.

Who's the greatest ever Boro player?

Can I have two? First one is and early hero of mine - John Hickton, the centre forward. His style of penalty was to go back as far as possible and bang it in. I think he only missed two penalties in his career. They say you should never meet your hero's because they might disappoint. It was totally the opposite with John. He used to come out of his house and chat and sign interviews for us kids who sat on the wall waiting for him to come out. One afternoon he took us out to the field in the back and taught us how to take penalties. It was the best day. My other choice is the Brazilian Juninho Paulista. For MFC to sign the No 1 Brazilian player at the time was incredible. The football he produced was amazing. He was a very small man but terrific footballer.

Do you have any annoying habits?

Devoting far too much time to football, even to the point of missing my daughter's birth. She's still not forgiven me!
