MML 2008

It's over again for another year, but how was it for you?

2008 was the year that brought us Ash, One Night Only, The Delays and the Wildcats All-star Jam amongst others, so what did YOU make of the day?

See the photos so far:

Phil - Darlington

I wish it had been sunny and that I could have seen Town of 1770 and Das Wanderlust, but it was damp and I didn't. Dirty Weekend were brilliant though.

Chris - Great Ayton

Despite the miserable weather and my shameful lack of knowledge about many of the bands playing, I was very impressed with what I saw and even found my new favourite band.

Unfortunately I managed to arrive at most stages just as one band finished and stood watching people move amps but did wander into the Empire in time to see the whole of Slow Club's set. I'd never heard of them before but thought they were great and enjoyed the folk tinged songs and use of a chair for percussion!

Ashe - Stockton

After doing photos in the glorious sun for the past two years at Music Live the whole day was a challenge for me - dull skies, heavy rain, wet shoes - the list goes on. The bands themselves were great though. Everyone has a habit of looking at previous MML Lineups and thinking "this year doesn't have much on!" but when you look back on it in a year's time, a lot of these unheard of names are the new next big thing, which shows the level of insight and planning that Ten Feet Tall put into the event.

The bands themselves were well mixed. I enjoyed watching The King Blues at the Sumo Courtyard stage. I saw Ladyhawke at the Mall stage in the town hall and despite having high hopes from their Myspace tracks I found them to be quite droll. Wildcats All-Star Jam on the main stage really had the crowd going and White Vinyl were entertaining at the open air stage. Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip at the empire was a very busy affair with a long queue outside waiting to get in, but it was worth it as they did not disappoint, and One Night Only put on a good performance before Ash started the beginning of the end. Ash were one of the first bands I was properly "into" so this years headliners were a great choice for me and as soon as they kicked off with Lose Control I was happy - I feel they're back to how they used to be before Charlotte joined, which isn't a bad thing by any stretch.

The one issue on a lot of peoples minds seemed to be the fact that you couldn't walk easily between a lot of the areas like you could last year, but apparently its because they cant mix the vehicles with the people like last year, so its understandable, and I'd rather have the fence and have MML stay a good, fun family day out.

Overall a great day, found some new bands that I liked, got very wet, dropped a 拢1,000 lens on the stairs in the Empire and had a cracking Pork & Apple sandwich!

Natalie - Middlesbrough

Whereas events like Glastonbury see people whinging about the rain all weekend, I didn't hear a peep out of anyone at MML. In fact as the gates opened hoards of teenagers ran to the front of the main stage even though there was no one playing yet.

I spent most of my day at the MIMA stage, which had lamenco guitarists, cellists and poets, and the best sandwiches at the festival. I also caught Sons and Daughters, who were good if a little samey, missed the Chapman Family (due to getting my timing wrong), saw a bit of Das Wanderlust and saw the last two songs of Ash's set. Only moan about the day is no toilet paper in the Empire - horrific!

Fantastic day with some superb acts (Delays were my high point). Only disappointment is the people who go to cause trouble and - got a knife pulled on me for not having a lighter - what's that all about!
