RegenerationYou are in: Tees > Places > Regeneration > Hartlepool's Victoria Harbour Victoria Harbour, 30 years from now? Hartlepool's Victoria HarbourDon't hold your breath waiting for this one to start, but the long term plan for one of Britain's last undeveloped vacant docklands, is huge. It鈥檚 probably the development you鈥檝e heard least about, but this is the biggie. Don鈥檛 expect to see much happen for a few years, but we鈥檙e talking 800 acres of prime dockland, 拢1bn of investment and, did someone mention the longest opening footbridge on the planet? All we鈥檒l say is, watch this space.
Help playing audio/video How it may look 25 to 30 years from now If you ever go from Hartlepool Marina to the Headland, you鈥檒l know you have to travel around a whole load of something. The reason is, the whole area is fenced off by customs, because the land is owned by PD Ports, the people who operate Teesport. From the air you can see. Not much there But they hardly use any of it, so the plan is, over the next 25 to 30 years, to turn the dock into a whole new community and to link up Hartlepool Marina with the historic Headland (if you haven鈥檛 been since they did it up, go and take a look. Now. I鈥檒l wait until you get back. In fact, I鈥檒l give you a lift.) Why 25 to 30 years before they even forecast getting this finished? Just look at the scale of it. 3,430 homes, schools and 57,000 square metres of office space.
