Chapman Family on stage

SIRF is 20!

The Stockton International Riverside Festival, the UK鈥檚 leading street arts festival is back鈥nd 2007 is its 20th birthday.

SIRF has been taking over the streets of Stockton Town Centre from Wednesday 1 August to Sunday, 5 August.

There's been everything from street performers to classic comedy, and an eclectic mix of rock, dance and performance art on the stages down by the river.

Wednesday - Friday

The first few days of the festival saw performances from groups like Fidget Feet, Cocoloco and Orkestra del Sol, as 2007's SIRF got underway with a swing.

Friday saw the stages come alive as bands and comedy kicked off with the Fringe - highlights included 15 Minute Society's tension-filled set of ragged punk rock, Scots comic John Scott and stars of the celeb-pages The Ordinary Boys.

Those lucky enough to blag the day off work enjoyed decent weather and set the weekend up to be a cracker.

Saturday

A packed Stockton town centre were able to enjoy a colourful Carnival parade with a train theme.

Drummers, food-shapes and a dragon were among the memorable sights that passed by as Saturday got underway.

The bands were at it early doors - Fijidots were up and running at midday, and a stream of visitors made their way through the gates throughout the afternoon and evening.

Among Saturday's star turns were The Chapman Family and Dartz! on the Main Stage, Frank Sidebottom and John Gordillo in the Comedy Tent and the likes of Gutter to Stars and Izzy Issgate on the Catalyst Stage.

Sunday

The final day of the Fringe was bathed in sunshine, with a healthy throng flocking to see the entertainment on offer.

Bands such as We Start Fires, Idiot Savant and Echo and the Bunnymen attracted large crowds on a beautiful day by the riverside, while in the Comedy Tent, Teesside Tintin, Charlie Chuck and Dom Woodward got the giggles going.

So all in all, a brilliant SIRF '07... roll on next year!
