Grandma's House

Grandma's House strut their stuff at MML

House music

When local scamps Grandma's House were asked to play 2007's Middlesbrough Music Live, we asked them to keep a diary of their day.

Forget Tony Christie and The Twang, 2007's Middlesbrough Music Live was all about one band - Grandma's House.

The members of the Middlesbrough group are all aged between 14 and 16 years-old, and proved to be one of the most popular bands of the day, as they revealed in their MML diary.

Crowd at MML 2007

The band attracted plenty of interest

"Let's set the scene. It's 12.45pm and we are gearing up to play for the first time at Middlesbrough Music Live.

"The crowd is breaking away from our predecessors The Truth, and they are amassing in front of our somewhat unnecessary crowd control barrier.

"It's 12.57pm and we are informed that The Truth are playing their last song, and we should prepare to go onstage.

"We were amazed about the size of the crowd as we never imagined we would be playing in front of so many people."

"As we embarked onto the stage we are ready to perform and blow our audience away.

"We spot some of our friends and family in the crowd, which gave us added confidence. We were amazed about the size of the crowd as we never imagined we would be playing in front of so many people.ÌýÌýÌý

"It's 1.05pm and the set is being received well.

"There are a lot of people watching, a bigger crowd than the one watching the band before us.

"We seem to be playing very well. Bodders' dancing is becoming increasingly erratic, Jake is playing unbelievably and many people are commenting on the awesome skills of the little'un.

"It's 1.20pm and we are entering the final quarter of our set.

The lads relax after their set

"The audience are captivated and we are playing well. 'Green Elephanty' has had a lot of people singing along, while our new, untitled song went down well too and we enjoyed a lot of applause.

"It's 1.28pm and we're about to play our last song, 'Down in the Jungle'.

"Our set has gone very well and the crowd has been expanding rapidly – we can't see a clear end to it.

"It's 1.31pm and our set is done.

"We all enjoyed it immensely, and later we learned that our crowd was the biggest gained on our stage.

"We also got two shout-outs from the Twang which we were pleased about!"

These guys are great. Despite living 'down South' now, I've heard them through mates passing on their tunes, and I think they have a cool 'boro' charm that reminds me of home!
