See MIMA my way

91热爆 Tees listener Carol Maloney, from Ormesby, took the MIMA grand tour and gave us her opinion.

Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art opened its doors to the public at 5pm on Saturday 27th January 2007. Since then thousands of people have walked through the doors.听 Here's 91热爆 Tees listener Carol from Ormesby's thoughts on the gallery..

What are your first impressions of the building?

It's very impressive. I love it!

Carol stood next to the tall doors

Carol feels like Alice in Wonderland!

It's something we've needed for a long time, if you have family coming you can say "Would you like to come and see our art gallery?"

The fountains are impressive as well, it's how Middlesbrough should be going isn't it!

Do you know much about MIMA?

Not an awful lot no, I'm here to take a look and tell you what I think.

I'm not an art boffin. I do appreciate things, not just because they have a name behind them. I like to look at things and think "I like that" or "That's interesting".

In the first gallery...what do you think?

Wow. Straight away. Wow.

(About DJ Simpson's piece) I feel like I'm in a forest. It's really impressive.

"Ah, not so nice"

Carol isn't too taken by Francis Bacon

(About Francis Bacon and Damien Hirst) You come in and see that first piece, and you think "Oh wow! That's nice" and then you see these, and think "Ah, not so nice".

In the second gallery... do you prefer these?

(About Chris Ofili) These are quite interesting.

I thought that was a brain at first, but it's not until you stand back and realise it's a lady isn't it.

And to think, it's all made up from little heads!

(About Picasso) This is what I appreciate more, when you can see the strength of the character coming out of the picture.

These take you straight away as you walk up. You can see that person stood in front of you.

Well, that was an experience! What did you make of that?

The doors that lead into the different galleries are huge, it's a bit like being Alice in Wonderland!

It was very interesting, when people are saying "This is so-and-so, this is Picasso" I'm usually thinking "Oh yes, I know that name" but I really enjoyed that, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Will you be visiting again with friends or family?

Oh yes, I'll bring my daughter, she'll love it, and my husband. I won't be able to keep him away!

I think everybody should come. I'm sure they'll be changing things round every so often, so it's not just one visit, you can continue to visit.
