SIRF 2006You are in: Tees > Entertainment > Festivals and Events > SIRF 2006 > SIRF Thursday Thursday at SIRF SIRF Thursday91热爆 Tees' Lee Johnson The Stockton Riverside Festival returns in style according to the first review of 2006... Launching the Thursday鈥檚 evenings festivities into full-throttle were 鈥楤urnout in the Capital鈥 armed with their heavy skater boy emo antics. The small but devoted crowd of young pop-punkers, most of which were sporting jeans skinny enough to make you weep and more make-up than Kat Slater, were treated to 鈥楢 Reason to Remember鈥 and 鈥楴ow You鈥檙e Gone鈥 as the sun finally returned to smile on Stockton鈥 鈥楪ive Him To Mongo鈥 were next in line, with vocalist Dan鈥檚 wild rainbow mohican (maybe Teesside鈥檚 answer to Johnny Rotten?) causing as much of a stir as their brand of anarchic punk. Perhaps a little snotty-nosed and nonchalant at times, the four piece tore through the likes of 鈥楩reedom Train鈥 and 鈥楻efuse to Bend鈥 in typical aggressive punk fashion with flailing guitars and call-to-arms vocals鈥
Them Amazing Babies brought a much needed edge to the evening with their potty-mouthed pop offerings. Despite the sound giving up on the foul-mouthed Darlington four piece twice, 鈥楥razy In The Head鈥, still their best song by a Stockton mile, must have clocked up around 25 expletives, all of which I wouldn鈥檛 dream of repeating 鈥 but they were nevertheless simply brilliant! Amazing indeed鈥 However, the night safely belonged to 鈥楧as Wanderlust鈥 (featuring 91热爆 Radio Cleveland鈥檚 very own Natalie Boxall and Andy Elliot) and their uber-quirky electro-pop. 听鈥楻ed Sauce, Brown Sauce鈥 is undoubtedly a classic in the making with its psychotic cries of 鈥淩ed Sauce!/Brown Sauce!/Red Sauce!/Brown Sauce!鈥, and when they produced a couple of recorders into their set, they swiftly became the night鈥檚 most talked about band of the evening鈥 Judging by the size of the crowd that flocked to the front of the stage as they came on, 鈥楨xit By Name鈥 were probably the ones that the kids were waiting to head-bang themselves into a coma to. Although they easily managed to produce the loudest set of the night, you couldn鈥檛 help but feel that each song completely mirrored the last, despite 鈥楤urnout in the Capital鈥檚鈥 Dave Briggs joining on guest vocals for one song. So, the folk of Stockton left the Fringe smiling from ear to ear and revved up for the next days shenanigans, which promised even more top notch entertainment. last updated: 09/09/2008 at 16:54 Have Your SayWhat did you think of Thursday at the Stockton International Riverside Festival?
