They'd added me on Myspace a lifetime ago and to be honest I'd never really given them much of a listen. Their songs are peppered with Radiohead, Muse and Queens of the Stone Age, dirty basslines and gloomy vocals. The singer spits a lot while he sings (he even warns you not to get too close), but you let him off because when he does sing you believe it and this may sound corny, but you feel his pain. There's something about it that grabs you by the neck and shakes you into submission. I'm not sure what it is but it's gritty and I like it. The French LettersFast, furious but with beautiful lyrics, this band impressed me. Somewhere in between the Libertines and some other punk outfit, they dazzled the crowd with their choppy guitar tunes. I'd never heard of them before today ,but I'm glad I stuck around to watch. 听I was pleasantly surprised and it seems that the Purple Onion is the place to be this afternoon.
