Melons and samurai swords

Melons after being sliced with swords

Put down your weapons

As the police asked for people to hand in knives and swords, the 91热爆 Tees breakfast team looked at what damage the weapons can do...

Police stations across the听country opened their doors to anyone who wanted to hand in a knife or sword... no questions asked.

The campaign followed pressure from among others, the Teesside based campaign group, Mothers Against Knives. Launched by Barbara Dunne whose son was killed in a samurai sword attack, the group campaign for such knife and sword amnesties.

She says, 鈥淚 wouldn't ask them, I would beg them to hand them in. The dangers are irreparable.

And these aren't classed as weapons...

鈥淲e want them off the streets so our children and grandchildren can have lives that are free from weapons.鈥

The 91热爆 Tees Breakfast team took two swords - a samurai sword they bought without any ID in a shop in Guisborough, and听one that was used in an act of criminal damage in County Durham, and used them on some melons.

Neither is classed as a deadly weapon, because they're not sharpened... So you don't need a license to own one.

I am a kendoist and Aikido practitioner.... How will this affect me? I also have a firearms license and visit the UK often.
