Towers and turkeys

New suits and hats are being ordered for those trips to Buckingham Palace as the Queen's New Year's Honours list is announced. There are a dozen people with Suffolk connections who'll be picking up medals in 2007.

The Suffolk recipients are drawn from a pool of successful companies, public services or are being given out for services to the local community:

Probably the most famous is Bernard Matthews whose turkey empire is based in Norfolk and it has a plant at Holton near Halesworth.听 He's getting the CVO which makes him a commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

The others being honoured are:

CBE

  • Dr Robert Royds Dickson - an oceanographic and climate scientist at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science in Lowestoft.
