Suffolk Young Farmers

If you are between the ages of 10 and 30 and would like doing something a little bit different then Suffolk YFC is for you! Read on to find our more..

Ask yourself

Do you ever wish you had something better to do than sit in front of the telly?

Or a change from going to the same places every Friday and Saturday night?

How about that feeling that you really ought to do some type of sport?

Or even the feeling that you would like to do something for charity?

Maybe learn to do something different or even travel the world?

If any of these thoughts have ever occurred to you read on, you might be surprised!!

Hectic social life

"Busy??? The understatement of the year I think!! So far I've managed about three nights in since October - not bad going!!"

I must be getting old if I'm wishing for a night in front of the telly! Young Farmers (no you don't need to be a farmer but I'll come to that!) is the opportunity of a lifetime, looks great on your CV and even teaches you stuff without you even realising that you are learning it!

If you are between the ages of 10 and 30 and like doing something a little bit different then Suffolk YFC is for you.

A typical young farmer

You can do as much or as little as you like with it and, as with most things, the more you put in the more you get out of it.

A typical Young Farmer is someone who lives in either a town or out in the sticks who appreciates the countryside and the ways of life of our county.

If you like sport, huge parties and getting out and about then come and join us and experience things you have never done before.

Next stop was the Suffolk Show and a huge stand with Bucking Bronco, Mini digger challenge and the opportunity to look over the show ground on our cherry picker.

All this was followed by our Annual Drinks Party and then off to the Fab Beatles show. Suffolk Show is Suffolk YFC's time to show ourselves off and also meet up with all the members and have a few beers.

The Stowmarket Young Farmers ball

The Stowmarket Young Farmers ball

The Annual Suffolk YFC Ball was held in an old aircraft hangar to the theme of Rock n Roll. A great band "Jurassic Rock" entertained 200 people and numerous t-birds and pink ladies enjoyed themselves at the huge BBQ and the bar did fairly well too!!

Sports Day followed and there wasn't an egg and spoon race to be seen!! Tennis, rounders and swimming are just three of the elements in our sports year. We do every type of sport imaginable ranging from mixed netball and football to lazerquest, hockey and ten pin bowling. The competition between the clubs is fierce but in the nicest possible way!!

Meetings and Speakers

As well as enjoying ourselves each club has meetings with speakers coming in to give talks about anything you can imagine!

We have had Shiatsu Massage, the Spirit Rescue Service (real life Ghostbusters!), a UFO walk around Rendlesham Forest, golf lessons at the driving range and even tobogganing!!

Pub crawl

Along with the meetings we have to ensure that we make a bit of money to keep ourselves going so we do a number of fundraising things throughout the year - we have our very own Suffolk YFC horseshow which is a great money- maker along with our biggest fundraiser the Suffolk YFC Muck Chuck!

We chuck muck for money basically! Machinery and muck are provided by local farmers and machinery dealers and we get paid to drive around spreading muck! This year we have raised in excess of 拢3500 which should keep us going for a bit longer.

Not posh nor loaded!

You don't have to be a farmer to be a Young Farmer, it's a myth! We aren't posh, we aren't loaded but we are young and we know how to enjoy ourselves.

If you want a bit of a break from the norm get in touch with our office on 01473 785547 or email suffolk@yfcoffice.fsnet.co.uk

Latest Events

Saska Sutherland, County Fieldworker at SYF fills us in on all the up-and-coming activities..

The Young Farmers will be at the Hadleigh Show this year. And the Competitions Rally Day is at Easton Farm Park on Saturday 27th May.听

It's jolly get-together for all members (approaching 270 of us) to compete in all sorts of competitions.听Some are prepared in advance like the making of push carts, rafts, recycled metalwork and display boards etc, and then others are done on the day - flower arranging, cocktail making, raft race, tractor driving skills.听

Also, there will be a show ring with 'old school' competitions to exhaust the energetic!听 Lots of these events give us the gear to take on to our stand at the Suffolk Show where we hope to encourage the public to say, "Hello" and find out all about our 'Youth movement for the countryside.'

Elsewhere, we have a tennis competition day on 11th June at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham.听And there is a County Ball for members that will take place at Easton Farm Park on 24th June with a 007 theme.

TRY IT YOU MIGHT LIKE IT!!

It looks like you have a very well organised business but one thing I missed in the story. Are you also allowed to have fun?Maybe you should come over here to Holland and we'll show you how we do it in the YFC ;-).
