Find out what our local reviewer thought when they played at The Steamboat on the 21st January. Being a member of the crowd at a Rosalita gig in the Steamboat Tavern for the very first time is a rather confusing experience. Ipswich is known for its thriving punk scene so to find yourself standing in front of an indie rock band on a Saturday night is an unusual sight, especially when the band in question manages to have everybody in the building tapping their toes from the moment they step on the stage. Jay, bass and Ben, keyboards Rosalita begin their set with Youth of Today and this slightly electro song is littered with some spectacular sounds produced by Ben Groom on keyboard. They follow with Manga Girl, the first track on their current EP which is also named after the song. It is a definite crowd pleaser and the extremely catchy riff keeps the crowd dancing from beginning to end. The band storm through a captivating set and it is clear to see that the audience love every minute of it as they do not stop moving. We are also played two new songs, Smash It Up and Zelda, which both go down enormously well and it seems Rosalita can do no wrong. Kris, vocals Next track, Heads, changes the tone for the evening and we are presented with an angry chorus that has the entire floor jumping. However, the obvious favourite with the fans is a pop number called Tired. The vocals from Kris Andrew, front man of the band, are particularly distinctive in this song and a large majority of the crowd are singing along with him to every word. The singing continues even further when Rosalita play the final song of their set, Greg Finds a Girl. Everybody on the floor is swaying in unison and chanting the chorus until the band have to finally step down and leave the headlining band, Jason Gigolo, to take over. Jay and Ben, Rosalita It is clear to see that Rosalita have worked extremely hard to create such a solid fan base and they are very lucky to have such devoted supporters. They are a band that clearly looks like they enjoy performing and even though their particular style is very competitive at this moment in time, they are definitely a band to take notice of and look out for in the near future. last updated: 26/11/2008 at 12:59 Have Your Say
