There were sixteen categories up for grabs at the slap-up meal at Stansted Airport in Essex. The mantelpiece at 91Èȱ¬ Radio Suffolk is now looking even fuller and, in fact, is on the verge of overflowing after the station scooped yet another major award.Ìý Mark with Linda, Rob, Alison and Steve. The ceremony took place at the Radisson hotel at Stansted Airport in Essex and was attended by radio, TV and press journalists from across the Eastern region. Mark is no stranger to awards.Ìý He was named News Broadcaster of the Year at the Sony Awards (commonly known as the Oscars of the UK radio industry) in 2003.Ìý Ironically, this was partly in acknowledgement of Mark's grilling of EDF Energy following the storms of 2002 which left thousands of homes without electricity! Mark Murphy by Jock Mark was described by the judges as "showing great depth as a journalist. He tackled tough subjects and lighter ones - moving between them with aplomb. He sounded in control of a range of subjects and was summed up as an accomplished act." After collecting the latest award,Ìý Mark praised his colleagues "Although the award has my name on it, it belongs to the whole Breakfast show team and everyone who works towards the programme, I couldn't do it without them." Mark Murphy with Karen & Paul Cuttill The East Of England Awards were presented by Paul Cuttill OBE of EDF Energy and swimmer Karen Pickering.Ìý Karen's connections with Ipswich Swimming Club and Crown Pools are well known - and she's been a regular guest on 91Èȱ¬ Radio Suffolk over the years.Ìý She's currently working with Ipswich Borough Council to try and promote Suffolk's training facilities ahead of the London Olympics in 2012. The radio station has had tremendous success in recent years as well winning the Sony Gold Station of the Year award in 2004.ÌýÌý Weekday and Saturday mid-morning presenter Nick Pandolfi also won a Gillard Award for Presenter Of The Year in 2004 - named in honour of Frank Gillard - the man credited with creating 91Èȱ¬ Local Radio.
