Find out what's happening in Strictly Come Dancing 2009
News
We've reached week 10, and, after a few surprising twists and turns, the remaining six couples are under even more pressure, as the race for the final is on! So, after tonight's show, who could be saying farewell to the dancefloor this weekend?
Lisa and Brendan were the first to dance, performing a Quickstep to Yes by Merry Clayton. Last week Lisa was in the dance off for the first time, so she was hoping she could avoid the same situation.
Len was concerned (in his head) as "you need to keep a lovely posture, with a lot going on below... and they managed it beautifully. Very, very good."
Bruno said "you've come back and delivered a top vintage Quickstep, classic, elegant."
Craig thought that "it has the potential to be perfect, it wasn't, there was alot of gapping going on... and you fell over Brendan's foot."
Arlene said "it was full of fancy footwork, you gave Brendan a run for his money!"
Score: Craig 8, Arlene 9, Len 9, Bruno 9. Total 35.
Up next were Christine and Matthew with a Cha Cha Cha to I Like It Like That by Pete C. Rodriguez. Christine was still on a high after her 9's last week, and receiving some good luck cards from a local school.
Bruno said "that should suit you... but you didn't engage as much as I'd have liked you to, you lost your footing... you've got to work more, on the hips... More, more, more!"
Arlene felt "this song is about the Latin beat, the feet on the floor, you need to feel the rhythm, you weren't connected with it... you were flat footed."
Craig said "disappointing, very wooden, sticky. You need to turn your feet out more. On a brighter note, some wonderful finishes that saved a little of it."
Len said that "it was neat, precise... (and then, slightly jokingly, in response to the other judges' comments) they were saying you've got to sell it more, rip of your knickers and fling them in the air!"
Score: Craig 6, Arlene 6, Len 8, Bruno 7. Total 27.
Jodie and Ian were next, performing a Jive to Great Balls of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis. Ill Heath has been a problem for Jodie this week, but Ian said she's made a valiant effort in training.
Arlene said "Jodie I never thought I'd see the day, and see you come out and perform like a great actress. There's a dancing trophy at stake and those kicks and flicks have got to be higher..."
Bruno said "I was really surprised, but you were sharp and on time, you were never off the time, you should be proud."
Craig said "I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was a really, really confident, tight performance. At times a little bit heavy, and landing late on a couple of jumps..."
Len added "you did those kicks beautifully, I thought you had the fun element of the dance...very good."
Score: Craig 7, Arlene 7, Len 8, Bruno 8. Total 30.
Then Tom and Camilla took to the floor, and performed a Tango to Please Mr Brown. Could Tom draw on his Holby character to get into the story of the dance?
"It had drive, passion... you stalked the floor, it was a gripping tale of Tango" said Arlene.
Len said " I agree with Arlene... you need to watch your arms... but I thought it was fantastic."
Craig said "I wouldn't mind coming to your hospital for a little bit of slapping, I loved it!... The only thing it lacked was some moments of stillness."
Bruno declared "talk about arrogance, you were disdainful... but you need a bit more refinement, then you'll get that championship."
Score: Craig 9, Arlene 9, Len 9, Bruno 9. Total 36.
Next up were Rachel and Vincent with a Foxtrot to Close To You by Matt Monro. Having received three 10's last week, Rachel was hoping it would be onwards and upwards for this week.
Bruno felt "this dance was not close to you, it was close to heaven... bliss."
Craig said "one word; fab-u-lous!"
Len said "ever since the Jive a few weeks ago you've knocked my socks off"
Arlene's view was "I'm afraid... close to perfect, strictly, something special!"
Score: Craig 10, Arlene 10, Len 10, Bruno 10. Total 40.
They were followed by the final couple Austin and Erin, who danced a Cha Cha Cha to Its Raining Men by The Weather Girls. Austin revealed afterward that he'd got carried away and thought he'd dislocated a finger during the dance, but cracked it back!
Bruno felt "you squeezed every drop of entertainment value out of that, amazing fun"
Craig said "the cheekiest Cha Cha I have seen, Suggestive gyration, full of!"
Arlene said "this dance is about the interplay between the couples... it was great, cheeky, naughty, but you've got very timid arms, you need to..." but she couldn't quite finish her point, as the other judges interupted her, and then she tried to demonstrate a move with her arms.
Because of this Len simply said "I'm not commenting, I enjoyed it very much!"
Score: Craig 8, Arlene 9, Len 9, Bruno 9. Total 35.
Then, welcomed back for their very last dance together were John and Kristina, who took to the floor for a special farewell perfomance, with a Waltz to the sounds of Come Away With Me by Norah Jones.
Len had already said at the start of the show that the judges wished John all the best, whatever he did next. The audience clapped their appreciation of John and Kristina, and then rose for a standing ovation. John said it had been "strictly fantastic" before thanking Kristina, his voting fans and the judges.
So Christine and Matthew with Jodie and Ian, are the two lowest-rated couples, then Austin and Erin and Lisa and Brendan joint third lowest-rated tonight. Tune in at 8.15pm on Sunday 23rd November to find out which couple will be the next to leave the show.
