The dances
The origins of the Viennese Waltz, so called to distinguish it from the Waltz and the French Waltz, date back to as early as the 12th Century and are found in the dance called "Nachtanz".
This is a difficult dance because it's very fast and there are limited steps to it. There are only three moves: natural turns, reverse turns and change steps.
How routines should look:
The footwork and steps should be kept very simple.
There should be a slight swaying action from the couple, a gentle rise and fall. It should mimic riding on the crest of a wave.
The dance should be very graceful and fluid, with lots of rotation, and the hold should never change.
Routines should include:
Natural turns, which are turns to the right
Reverse turns, which are turns to the left.
Change steps, which are executed in between the natural and reverse turns and used to aid the dancers to move to the other foot.
