Singer Toyah Wilcox went in search of some unlikely creatures in some unlikely places for Saving Planet Earth. Historically salmon used to arrive in the River Dove each year via the Atlantic, the Humber and the Trent. By the 1930s industrial, agricultural and domestic pollution had effectively wiped out the salmon population. In recent years industry in the UK has improved its pollution record and water companies have invested in reducing waste and pollution in our rivers. With better conditions in the rivers the Trent Rivers Trust have created a scheme to reintroduce salmon to the River Dove. The trust have released thousands of young fish at the head of the river in the hope that they'll return in future years to breed. Toyah spoke to David Hunter from the trust who told her that although they have released 17,000 fish they will be thrilled if one in a hundred return as an adult. In the clip below Toyah and David experience the rare sight of leaping salmon on the River Dove.
