Generations of Asian women who have come to England from their native countries have endured struggles that you and I would find difficult to comprehend. But not all women have allowed themselves to feel like victims of their circumstances. Awani Malik's story is an inspirational one of courage, strength and belief, despite being tinged with sadness. Having to grow up for the largest part of her life without parents or family in Kenya, has meant Awani had to mature long before her time. After having two arranged marriages in England, and losing both husbands to heart attacks, Awani has managed to pick herself up and carry on. Working odd jobs, she manages to survive. Letting go of the past Awani has an incredible ability to move on and let go of the past. Nothing seems to get her down for long, to the point where I could see was actually terrified that delving into her past would unleash the memories and pain she鈥檇 kept locked away for so long. Despite this, her positive attitude has got her through the loneliest and most challenging times of her life. From the first day she arrived in England, she wasted no time in getting settled into life in Staffordshire. Listen to Anwani's story by clicking on the link below: |
