Lizzy Yarnold's hopes of defending her World Cup title were dented by the cancellation of Saturday's race in La Plagne, France.

The race, which was due to double up as the European Championship, was called off because of "unacceptable ice conditions".

Briton Yarnold, 26, is fifth in the World Cup standings with only races in Igls and Sochi remaining.

GB's Laura Deas and Rose McGrandle were also set to compete in La Plagne.

The International Bobsleigh & Skeleton & Federation (FIBT) is set to make an announcement next week about alternative arrangements for the European Championship.

Yarnold, who won gold at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, missed the second World Cup event of the season in Calgary in December because of dizziness.
