Katie Summerhayes to return to action in Colorado World Cup
Slopestyle skier Katie Summerhayes hopes to prove she is fit to compete at the Sochi Winter Olympics when she returns from a knee injury at this week's World Cup event in Colorado.
The 18-year-old Briton ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in 2012.
Summerhayes returned to win World Cup silver last year before a scan revealed a recurrence of the original injury.
She has already achieved the qualifying standard for Sochi, but must prove her fitness by the middle of January.
Qualifying in Colorado starts on Wednesday with the finals taking place on Friday.
The ski and snowboard squads will then be announced on 22 January ahead of next month's Games in Russia.
Three-time Olympian Chemmy Alcott is back in training on snow for the first time since breaking her leg for the second time last August.
The 31-year-old missed two years after a serious compound fracture in 2010, and then, after a successful comeback in 2012, sustained a further break last summer.
Alcott, who finished 11th in the downhill in Turin 2006 and in the super-combined in Vancouver 2010, has already qualified for the Sochi Games, but like countrywoman Summerhayes needs to prove her fitness.
"Proud of myself today. Baby steps but self belief started to bubble away underneath the surface that I CAN and WILL do this."
British slopestyle snowboarder Jenny Jones has also returned to training on snow after suffering concussion in a training accident in December.
The 33-year-old, who won World Cup silver last August, is set to compete in the next week, either at Breckenridge or Stoneham.
Slopestyle involves pulling different kinds of tricks off jumps, with the tricks marked on difficulty and size, and will make its first appearance at the 2014 Sochi Games, which officially open on 7 February.
