British interest in the Australian Open boys' singles has come to an end with quarter-final defeats for Kyle Edmund and Josh Ward-Hibbert in Melbourne.

Yorkshire's Edmund fought hard but was overcome 7-5 7-5 in an hour and 46 minutes by Australian top seed and Wimbledon boys champion Luke Saville.

Nottingham's Ward-Hibbert, who turned 18 on Wednesday, went out 6-3 6-2 to Canada's Filip Peliwo.

Ward-Hibbert and Liam Broady did advance to boys' doubles final however.

The pair, seeded sixth, were separated from the event's fourth-ranked duo Andrew Harris and Nick Kyrgios of Australia by a tie-break after they shared a set apiece.

Their 4-6 6-4 (10-6) victory sets up a meeting with the unseeded combination of Adam Pavlasek of the Czech Republic and Filip Verger of Croatia in Friday's final.
