Newport Gwent Dragons: Lyn Jones agrees new two-year deal
Director of rugby Lyn Jones has agreed a new two-year deal which extends his stay at Newport Gwent Dragons until June 2017.
Jones, 50, joined the Gwent-based region in June 2013.
In 2014-15 he led the side to the semi-final of the European Challenge Cup and ninth place in the Pro12 - losing their tag as worst Welsh region by finishing above Cardiff Blues.
"I'm delighted to extend my stay at the Dragons," said Jones.
He "The first two years have been about change, but the next two will be about regaining respect in the world of rugby through consistent performances and results.
"We have all witnessed the potential here with so many 'firsts' this season.
"The Dragons squad, board and management team are good people and I look forward to September with much excitement in helping them achieve their goals."
Those "firsts" included a doing the double over French side Stade Francais and 2013-14 Pro12 champions Leinster.
This season Jones also led the Newport-based side to its first European victory on English soil against Newcastle Falcons and first win away against local rivals Cardiff Blues for 11 years.
Dragons chief executive Stuart Davies said the future looks bright at Rodney Parade.
"Lyn heads up an excellent all-Welsh rugby management team overseeing a very exciting squad here at the Dragons," he said.
"Our younger players are in great hands as we look to build on a very promising season in the years ahead, and Lyn has earned the opportunity to lead the side as we seek to further enhance a growing reputation."
