Wasps will appeal against Nathan Hughes's three-week ban for knocking George North unconscious.

The club will contest the Rugby Football Union disciplinary panel's decision - arguing the incident was an "accident" and "no foul play occurred".

The 23-year-old was sent off for his challenge on North, during Northampton's 52-30 Premiership victory, and later found guilty of "striking with the knee and/or shin".

The hearing is on Friday, 10 April.

Hughes will still miss Wasps' European Champions Cup quarter-final at Toulon on Sunday, despite the appeal being lodged.

Following the original decision, Sir James Dingemans, chair of the panel, said there was "recklessness", but that "no intention was found".

Wales international North will not play again this month after being knocked unconscious three times in recent months.
