Cornish Pirates deal to sign Penberthy is scuppered

Cornish Pirates will not be able to sign Redruth fly-half Aaron Penberthy on dual registration.

Penberthy was expected to join the Pirates for next season but the club have confirmed a deal cannot be reached as he is not an England Academy player.

However, the Championship side have confirmed the 19-year-old will train with the squad during pre-season and they will "monitor his progress".

He was a stand-out performer for the Reds last term, scoring 247 points.
