Scotland A international David Blair is to quit professional rugby at the end of the season with Edinburgh to pursue a career in education.

The 25-year-old fly-half has spent four years with the Magners League club after joining from Sale Sharks.

Blair said: "It's been a tremendous privilege to be part of this environment and I've met some great people along the way.

"The time has come to open a different chapter for myself."

Blair represented his country at age group level, but he failed to follow brother Mike into the full international set-up during his eight years as a professional.

He made 60 appearances for Edinburgh, contributing 154 points between league and European business in the Heineken Cup.

Edinburgh interim head coach Nick Scrivener, who is himself leaving the club in the summer, thanked the fly-half for his contribution.

"David Blair is a player who has always shown a very professional attitude and who has contributed positively both on and off the field," he said.

"On behalf of everyone at the club, I'd like to wish him all the best for the next stage in his working life."
