Rangi Chase suspended by Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers have suspended reigning Man of Steel Rangi Chase while they launch an internal investigation into the player's actions.

The England stand-off, 26, was dropped for Sunday's game at Leeds which the Tigers lost 40-22.

A club statement said: "The club hope for the conclusion of this matter sooner rather than later.

"We will not comment further on the situation at this stage so to not prejudice the case for either party."

Tigers coach Ian Millward refused to comment after the game on Sunday, saying: "I don't want to talk about Rangi Chase. I'm not here to talk about people who aren't here."

Chase has been suspended on full pay and was left out for three games earlier this season after breaking the jaw of Featherstone player Tangi Ropati in a Challenge Cup match.

Earlier this month the former Maori international confessed that he would be interested in a move to Super League rivals Wigan and has recently been linked with Huddersfield Giants.

In addition, Tigers' winger Nick Youngquest has announced he will retire from professional rugby at the end of this season.

The 28-year-old who joined Cas in 2010 from Crusaders played for St George Illawarra Dragons, Penrith Panthers and Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL before moving to Britain.

"As retirements [are] the order of the day, I'm going to retire from professional rugby at the end of the season. It's been good while it lasted!", he Tweeted.
