Josh Charnley notched his 11th Super League try of the season as Wigan walloped Wakefield at the DW Stadium to climb to second in the table.

Charnley weighed in with four kicks out of seven for a 12-point haul, while centres Darrell Goulding and George Carmont both scored twice.

Scrum-half Thomas Leuluai and winger Anthony Gelling both crossed too.

But Wakefield scored just once, scrum-half Kyle Wood's second try in as many games, to remain second from bottom.

Wigan were again without 2010 Man of Steel Pat Richards, who aggravated a quad muscle problem in the impressive 28-10 Good Friday derby win at St Helens.

But, despite the loss of the home side's main kicker, it could prevent Richard Agar's Wakefield crashing to a third consecutive defeat.

The Warriors backed up their 28-10 Good Friday derby win at St Helens as they made light of the wet weather conditions with a seven-try demolition of the struggling Wildcats.

Coach Shaun Wane made a couple of changes, with Logan Tomkins getting the first start of his career at hooker, while Gelling marked a rare appearance with one of Wigan's three first-half tries as they led 16-0 at the break.

They then added four more in the second half to move up to second in the table.

Carmont got two of them, while the in-form Goulding made it five tries in three matches.

Wood then Wakefield on the scoresheet, Sykes adding the goal, before Charnley's effort edged him back ahead of Huddersfield's Luke George as Super League's top try scorer.

Wigan coach Shaun Wane:

"I know what it is like to play the Easter games and it is hard work, but we got better as the game went on. Mark Bitcon and Mick Turner, our two conditioners, have done a great job in preparing them and we as coaches cannot take any credit for that."

"With it being wet, and our second game in four days, it could have easily got a bit ugly but I have to say it was a professional job.

"I thought Logan Tomkins and Anthony Gelling did well. They are two young players who have not played many games and they have come in and acquitted themselves very well. Overall, I am a very happy man and I have had a great Easter."

Wakefield coach Richard Agar:

"In the first half in particular, our application was really good. We completed a lot of sets and looked good with the ball and defensively in the middle of the park we really stood up, but in the first 20 minutes of the second half some back-to-back sets hurt us.

"The reality of today is that it was a bit of a mismatch in quality of personnel, but for effort and commitment I thought our boys tried hard and gave their all for the 80 minutes.

"Some of the young guys will gain tremendous experience and a lot of confidence for some of the things they did in the game."
