England add McGuire and Carvell for Australia showdown

England coach Steve McNamara has added two players to his squad for Saturday's Four Nations showdown with Australia.

Leeds stand-off Danny McGuire and Warrington prop Garreth Carvell have been added to the 17-man squad that beat Wales 42-4 last weekend.

Australia, who beat New Zealand 26-12 at Warrington in their opening match, have named Greg Inglis in their team.

Inglis replaces Willie Tonga at centre after returning to full fitness, but prop David Shillington is out injured.

The England v Australia match is the second leg of a Wembley double-header, with Wales and New Zealand opening proceedings at 1300 GMT.

McNamara believes a win over the tournament favourites would ignite the competition and enable England to put one foot in the 19 November final at Elland Road.

"We're very aware of our responsibilities as a national team in representing rugby league in this country," he said.

"To win on Saturday would be a massive boost for the game but, in context, winning the tournament is the one.

"To do both would be fantastic and, if we do the first, it gives us a greater opportunity to do the second one in a few weeks' time."

Australia coach Tim Sheens says he does not expect Inglis, who caused all sorts of problems for England in the 2009 series, to be back to his best at Wembley.

"Greg at his best is rated number one centre in the world but he hasn't played for a long time," he said.

"He's fit and he's trained well but his timing is still well away. I'm hoping he just gets through the game solid, that's all he has to do, then build because there's Wales next week and hopefully the final.

"That will give him a series of games to get ready."

Sheens is also playing down his team's tag of favourites.

"I know there will be favourites in any competition but we don't consider ourselves favourites in any shape or form," he added.

"I watched England's game against France when they were average but against Wales last week they were much, much better.

"You could see the improvement and the combinations coming together. They looked a lot more competent."
