Jonathan Rea secures Superbike podium at Magny Cours
Jonathan Rea has dropped a place to fourth in the World Superbike standings despite securing a podium finish in race one at Magny Cours on Sunday.
Rea overcame the treacherous conditions to finish behind winner Sylvian Guintoli and runner-up Marco Melandri.
Rea crashed out of race two while leading as he failed to finish a race for the first time this season.
Eugene Laverty was unable to score any points as he crashed twice, although he re-mounted in race two to end up 19th.
Kawasaki rider Tom Sykes, who twice finished fourth, leads Guintoli by 12 points going into the final two races of the series at Losail in Qatar on 2 November.
Melandri, who moves up to third in the championship, won the day's second race in France, with Guintoli second.
Pata Honda rider Rea, 27, lies 11 points behind Melandri.
