Jonathan Rea is hoping to improve on his two eighth place finishes at Phillip Island when he rides in the second World Superbike round at Aragon.

Rea and his Honda team-mate Leon Haslam are struggling to overcome teething problems with a new electronics kit.

A three-day test in Spain this week failed to cure the problem and the pair will take to the track again at Alcarras at the start of next week.

"It's a new package which is taking a lot of time to dial in," said Rea.

"The bike is detecting a lot of wheelspin when it's not spinning and cutting too much power.

"The technicians are smart and they'll figure it out in time for the next round - we didn't have a great start to the series but overall we have a good package for the rest of the season."

The Ballyclare-born rider this week completed a test at the Motorland Aragon circuit, which will host the next championship round on 14 April, the first of 10 consecutive European rounds.

"I had never ridden in Spain until the World Superbike round last year but I know the circuit, I've done quite a few laps on it, and I like it.

"I also rode there in a MotoGP race for the Repsol Honda team so I hope to come away with some podiums.

"I want to win as many races as I can and then think about the overall position in the championship in August.

"Hopefully I will be talking about winning it, but it's so competitive, so we'll just try our best and see how it goes."
