Gareth Maybin misses cut in South Korea tournament

Gareth Maybin missed the cut at the Ballantine's Championship in South Korea after posting successive rounds of one-over 73.

His expected exit by two shots was confirmed on Saturday morning when the second round was completed.

Maybin only managed 10 holes of his first round on Thursday and went to complete his 73 on Friday morning.

A bad start to his second round saw him slipping to five over and despite a late rally, he missed out by two shots.

Sweden's Alexander Noren leads on nine under par after three rounds which puts him one ahead of Spain's Pablo Larrazabal and Scotland's Peter Whiteford.

Damien McGrane is the leading Irishman, six off the pace, after carding steady rounds of 71, 72 and 70.

Peter Lawrie is one under going into the final round after rounds of 68,73 and 74.

Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley also made the cut opening rounds of 73 and 70 but then lost ground with a third-round 75.

Maybin was two over when his opening round resumed on Friday morning and he picked up one shot during his remaining eight holes to post a 73.

However, a double bogey and two bogeys in his opening six holes of his second round sent him tumbling down the field to five over and playing his remaining 12 holes in three under was not going to be sufficient to keep his interest alive in the tournament.
