Portsmouth's Terry Devlin has described the Championship as a "ruthless" league to play in.

It has been a tough start to life in the second tier for the Blues with one victory, five draws and six defeats leaving the team rooted to the bottom of the table.

"It鈥檚 such a ruthless league this year," Devlin told 91热爆 Radio Solent.

"It feels like anytime you make a mistake you just get punished instantly and it is just so tough, it鈥檚 going to be like that all season though."

Last season was Devlin's first at Pompey, moving to the club in the summer of 2023 from Northern Irish side Glentoran.

It ended up being a successful campaign for the Blues as they won promotion but it was one filled with frustration for Devlin who missed most of the action from February onwards due to a shoulder injury

This campaign he played some minutes at the beginning of the season before missing out on the matchday squad for six games.

Now returning to the side he finds himself in a new right-back role instead of his previously favoured central midfield position.

On Friday night Devlin played 90 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday and despite going into the break a goal to the good they were eventually beaten 1-2 by the Owls.

"We knew coming into the season it was going to be tough and a step up," Devlin added.

"There are no easy games in this league and we just need to keep together as a group and I believe our luck will turn.

"There鈥檚 loads of fixtures coming up and with that there鈥檚 always a chance to improve and make a result right the next time. This weekend we鈥檙e looking to make Friday鈥檚 result right and hopefully get a win."

Portsmouth visit Hull City at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.
