Oxford United boss Des Buckingham says his side must "operate at the standard" they have set themselves after strong wins in their league and cup openers.

On the opening weekend of the season, promoted United caught the eye with a classy display to defeat a Norwich City side who made the Championship play-offs last term.

The U's also beat Peterborough United in midweek to progress in the Carabao Cup.

"It was a good start for a couple of reasons," Buckingham added.

"We were going into a lot of unknowns and although it was just the first games I now feel like a lot of questions have been answered which is pleasing.

"The main thing now is we have to continue to operate at this standard as a minimum if we are to put ourselves in a good position this season."

Buckingham says his side will set up to nullify the threat posed by Coventry City when they visit the Sky Blues in their second Championship game of the new season on Friday night.

Coventry lost their opening game away at Stoke and will be looking for their first points of the campaign under the lights at Coventry Building Society Arena.

"We're expecting a very tough test," Buckingham told 91热爆 Radio Oxford.

"Coventry can hurt us in lots of different ways but we can also hurt them, we'll set up to try and nullify their threat.

"It's not about going there and trying to defend too much though - we have to show the type of football that we want to play."
