Exeter City forward Yanic Wildschut is set to be out for "a number of months'" after injuring his knee.

He is set to undergo a scan on Thursday to fully assess the injury, but Exeter boss Gary Caldwell expects him to be missing for a long time.

"We think it'll be a number of months," Caldwell told 91热爆 Radio Devon.

"As yet we don't know the full extent of the damage, so we'll wait for that and see.

"We're still hopeful and positive that he might get away with it, but it doesn't look good at the moment."

Caldwell says the injury is particularly frustrating as Wildschut had been impressive over the summer.

"He was someone that had a big off-season, he came in a lot over the off-season to be in a really good condition and you could see that in the games that he was playing

"He was very influential in the Torquay game, he started the game against Eastleigh very well and looked like he could make a big impact in the season for us.

"It always seems to be the case with football when you are in that good frame of mind and that good form that something like this happens.

"But as a club we'll support him. We have good medical staff, he's a fantastic person around the squad - everyone around the squad has huge respect for him and we'll do everything we can to help him get back as quickly as possible."
