Cadiz fans threw plastic ponchos on to the pitch to bring their side's loss to Real Betis to an early end.

Real Betis were 2-0 ahead thanks to goals from Willian Jose and Pablo Fornals - his first goal for the club since his 拢6.8m move from West Ham.

But in the third of four additional minutes, the referee ended the game after ponchos were thrown on to the pitch at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

Cadiz are 18th out of 20 teams and in La Liga's relegation zone.

They have only won two of 24 league matches this season and are without a La Liga win since 1 September when they beat Villarreal 3-1 at home.

Cadiz finished 14th in 2022-23 and are in their fourth successive season in Spain's top flight.

However, this campaign has been a miserable one that has also seen them lose to fourth-tier side Arandina in the Copa del Rey.

Last month, Cadiz sacked head coach Sergio Gonzalez and replaced him with former Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino.

The protests at Cadiz came on the same day as protests at two matches in Germany, with fans unhappy at an investment proposal by the German Football Association.

Hannover's 4-3 win over Hamburg in Bundesliga 2 was delayed after Hamburg fans chained six padlocks to the goal and netting at half-time, with the padlocks having to be cut off before play could resume.

In the Borussia Dortmund-Freiburg Bundesliga match, a number of tennis balls and chocolate gold coins were thrown on to the pitch behind the goal the hosts were defending in the first half.
