Reading manager Brian McDermott promises to build over summer
Reading manager Brian McDermott has urged supporters to stick with him over the summer as he looks to build a side to compete for Championship promotion.
The Royals could finish as low as 19th or as high as 14th since falling off the play-off pace after a strong start.
McDermott returned to the club in December for a second spell in charge.
"Let's see if we can get a group of players together over the summer with a consistent level of performance," he told 91热爆 Radio Berkshire.
"We'll try to make sure we bring the right players in and start to build something."
McDermott will take Reading to Blackburn on the last day of the season, the club he faced in his first match back in charge in December.
The former Leeds manager admits inconsistency has prevented any signs of improvement from shining through.
"What we need is consistency," he added. "Have we had consistency since I have been back here or in the last two years? No.
"I see patches of improvement at times. I see times where we play really well and times where we don't.
"We need consistency and that's the bottom line."
