Plymouth Argyle boss Derek Adams has conceded that it will be tough for his side to win automatic promotion from League Two after losing 3-2 at home to bottom side Dagenham and Redbridge.

The Pilgrims were five points clear at the top of the league in November.

They are now in fifth place, three points off third position.

"If you can't win against the bottom side in the table when you need to win, then it's going to be extremely difficult," Adams told 91�ȱ� Radio Devon.

"We need two wins from our last two games now and we need other people to lose matches for us to get into the automatic promotion places," he added.

Argyle were 3-0 down at half-time before staging a second-half fightback.

Adams added that failures at both ends of the pitch were to blame for the defeat.

"We didn't defend well enough. We've lost three goals defensively and then you've got a long way to come back," he said.

"We've had open goals, we've had ones past the post and over the bar, we had numerous corner-kicks into the box where we could have scored goals, but overall we haven't got the win that we needed."
