Dundee manager Paul Hartley said the 1-1 draw with St Johnstone was a good advert for Scottish football.

Kane Hemmings gave Dundee an early lead before David Wotherspoon equalised in an all-action first 45 minutes.

Conditions were difficult in the second half after heavy rain, but Hartley was pleased with his side's point, their fifth 1-1 draw in six games.

"It was a terrific start to the game, it was full of quality, end-to-end," Hartley told 91�ȱ� Scotland.

"It was a good advert, especially the first half.

"I thought our start was brilliant, it was a great goal, good combination play between Greg Stewart and Hemmings and a terrific finish.

"They're (St Johnstone) the form team but we showed we're a good outfit on our day."

Although they are without a win in six games, the point moved Dundee - temporarily at least - into the top six of the Premiership.

Hartley said: "The pleasing thing is we've gone to Tynecastle last week, we've come here tonight, they're not easy away fixtures, and I'm really proud of the players' efforts tonight."

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright saw his men miss out on the chance to move into third place above Aberdeen but still felt it was a good night for his side after stretching their unbeaten run in all competitions to six.

"Every point you get is a point gained so we're happy with it," said Wright. "It's probably a fair reflection result and reflection of the game.

"I'm just disappointed how we started the game. They started particularly well but we made it too easy for them.

"The first half was exciting, a really open game. The second half fizzled out a bit, I don't think the conditions helped.

"You're always disappointed when you don't win games. The main thing is we picked up a point, we keep our unbeaten run going and the players have got to be pleased with that."
