Miguel Chines scored both goals as newly promoted Carrick started their Premiership campaign with a 2-1 victory over the Swifts at Stangmore Park.

The striker netted on the rebound after keeper Andy Coleman kept out Conor McCloskey's shot on nine minutes.

Ryan Harpur hit the bar for Dungannon before Chines converted a penalty after McCloskey was fouled before the break.

Alan Teggart headed in with five minutes left to give the Swifts hope but Carrick held on for the points.

It was the perfect start to the season for Gary Haveron's team with Chines and McCloskey starring for the top-flight new boys.

Chines scored 28 goals to help Carrick win the Championship last season and he condemned his former club to defeat on Saturday.

Harpur saw his free-kick hit the woodwork and Rangers keeper Brian Neeson saved as Paul McElroy attempted to convert the rebound.

Chris Lowe brought down McCloskey for the penalty and he also missed a late chance to equalise, with his volley going just wide.
