Newport County AFC's acting chairman Howard Greenhaf has backed the Supporters Trust's planned takeover of the club.

The club had already announced major shareholder Les Scadding was gifting his holding to Trust who are seeking approval of the Football League.

Greenhaf will also hand over his shares once the takeover is complete.

"We hope that the fans get behind the Trust in their quest to raise funds," said a club statement.

The Supporters Trust are holding meeting in Newport on Friday night as they seek to raise money to fund the takeover of the League Two club.

Greenhaf is quotes on the football club's website saying: "Upon completion of the takeover I will be gifting my shares to the Trust, but I will always be there to support the Club and to help in any way that I can, that is also true for the current non-executive Directors."

Two of the non-executive directors - Mark Crook and former Wales international striker Nathan Blake - are stepping down from their positions on the board.
