New LA Galaxy signing Steven Gerrard was introduced to the crowd at half-time against Toronto as Robbie Keane scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win.

Former England captain Gerrard, 35, will be eligible to make his Major League Soccer debut following his move from Liverpool on 18 July.

Gerrard said: "I can't wait to get my boots on and play in front of you guys.

"I've been in Liverpool all my life. But this is a good place for me to come... and hopefully add a trophy."

Gerrard's debut could come in two weeks' time against San Jose Earthquakes (04:00 BST, 18 July).

On the pitch, it was his former Liverpool team-mate Keane who was the star of the day though.

The Republic of Ireland captain had scored twice before Gerrard's half-time presentation, and added a third just before the hour mark.

Elsewhere in MLS, former Real Madrid midfielder Kaka scored his ninth league goal of the season but was then sent off as Orlando City drew 1-1 with Real Salt Lake.

After becoming the joint-second top scorer in the 2015 league, the 33-year-old Brazilian was shown the first straight red of his career for a lunge on Javier Morales in the first half.

Another high-profile MLS import, ex-Barcelona striker David Villa, scored twice as Frank Lampard's new side New York City FC won 2-1 against Montreal Impact. Lampard is eligible to make his debut next weekend.

Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle scored his first league goal as his Colorado Rapids beat Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1.
