New Wrexham manager Gary Mills says he wants to be the man to make the Dragons a "big club again".

Mills, a European Cup winner as a player with Nottingham Forest, has left Conference side Gateshead to take over at the Racecourse on a one-year rolling contract.

He is Wrexham's fifth manager in eight years in non-league's top tier.

"I want to be the man to make them a big club again and make sure we start being successful," said Mills.

"I've always said there's no promises from me whatever club I go into, but I will work as hard as I can to make that happen.

"There's a lot of work to do but I'm looking forward to it."

Mills, 53, succeeds Kevin Wilkin, who was sacked by the Dragons in March.

He confirmed his assistant at Gateshead, former Tottenham midfielder Darren Caskey, will follow him to Wrexham.

But he gave no assurances over the future of current coaches Carl Darlington, Lee Jones and Michael Oakes.

"I'm not going to say everybody's out of work because that would be stupid. There's a lot of good people here," he said.

"But they might make the decision... that they can't work with me for some reason.

"Let's hope there's none of that. Let's hope it's all about pulling together. But it is my way."

Wrexham director of football Barry Horne says Mills will have full control over which players stay, come in and the make-up of his coaching staff.

The former Everton midfielder also said Mills is under no illusions of the target for the 2015-16 season.

"The expectation at Wrexham is to get promoted," said Horne.

"Gary Mills is fully aware of that. How he does that is up to him."
