Leeds United president Massimo Cellino has had his disqualification from the club extended to the end of the season.

In January, the Football League disqualified him from running the Championship club until 10 April.

However, the League have now said that they have against Cellino and the club and he can return from 3 May.

The Italian stepped away from the club in order to clear his name last month.

Former Cagliari owner Cellino was disqualified in December after the Football League obtained documents from an Italian court, which had found him guilty of tax evasion.

After failing in his initial appeal against the decision, Cellino started his ban on 23 January before saying last month that he "would not return" when his ban ended, as had previously been assumed.

The Football League and Leeds "The club and Cellino have decided in the interests of the club, its players and supporters not to contest this charge.

"As a result, Cellino's period of disqualification as a 'relevant person', as defined by the regulations, has now been extended from 10 April until 3 May, the day after the conclusion of the 2014-15 league season.

"Cellino's right to challenge the decision of the Professional Conduct Committee under Football Association Rule K is unaffected by this settlement."

A Football Association Rule K hearing would see Cellino take the Football League to an independent arbitration tribunal.

At present, no date has been set for this tribunal.
