Manager Justin Edinburgh has praised 16-year-old defender Regan Poole following Newport County's 2-0 League Two win over Plymouth Argyle.

Poole, who had a trial at Manchester United in September, was making only his second league start for the Exiles

Edinburgh said he would have no problem playing Poole when Newport travel to Cheltenham on Sunday.

"It was a fantastic performance from him," Edinburgh said.

"It was fantastic for young Regan coming in and playing against one of the best strikers in this league and not looking out of place at 16.

"His temperament in front of a big following and a great atmosphere was outstanding."

"I would have no worries about playing him again. He's way ahead of his age and you wouldn't know he was 16."

Goals from Chris Zebroski and Mark Byrne saw Newport beat Plymouth in front of their biggest home crowd of the season to move to within six points of league leaders Shrewsbury.

Edinburgh's side are away at Cheltenham on Sunday, 28 December and face a team currently 18th in League Two.

"We're in the play-off positions going into one more game before the turn of the year," Edinburgh said.

"Games come thick and fast now so we have to re-group, assess the players and get ready for Cheltenham away."
